Social media has made information and entertainment available at almost every moment. There is always another video, another notification, another post, another comment, or another recommendation waiting for us.
This creates a cycle in which a person can remain constantly occupied without actually accomplishing anything meaningful.
For students and young people, this can be especially costly.
These years contain opportunities to build knowledge, discipline, character, friendships, professional skills, and spiritual awareness. These opportunities are not necessarily available in the same way forever.
The problem is therefore not that every minute spent on social media is wasted. Entertainment, communication, and even online learning can have legitimate value.
The problem begins when intentional use becomes uncontrolled consumption.
There is a difference between:
“I am using social media for 20 minutes.”
and
“I opened social media and lost 90 minutes.”
The first is a choice.
The second is a loss of control.
Imam Ali's wisdom encourages us to recognize the value of the moment before it disappears.
